Bases are not included in the designs.  I usually make my bases from scrap wood cut to length, routed along the edges and then glued to the sign.  You could also improvise a custom shaped base as explained in my custom base tutorial.

 Ace Quarterback Sign Pattern

Make this a gift for your football hero and he will be very happy.  Stands about 5" tall and about 11" long.  I cut mine from cherry and attached it to a 1/2" cherry base.

Nice gift for your baseball catcher.  I cut mine from 1/2" birch and placed it on a 3/4" base of cherry.  Cut from any wood this makes a nice token for your sports enthusiast.
