"The Monkey's Paw" is a
horror short story by author W. W. Jacobs. It was published in England in 1902.
The story is based on traditional stories in which three wishes are granted. In
the story, the paw of a dead monkey is a talisman that grants its possessor
three wishes, but the wishes come with an enormous price.
"Billy Budd" is a novella begun around 1886 by American author Herman Melville,
left unfinished at his death in 1891 and not published until 1924. The work has
been central to Melville scholarship since it was discovered in manuscript form
among Melville's papers in 1924 and published the same year. (Wikipedia)
