Lesson 4: Making Folders Within Folders
And
Copy Files to Folders
This step by step lesson accompanies an on-screen
video available from Baggetta_Ware Teacher Tech

use these instructions to practice the task.
As we indicated in the last lessons, you should create folders on your desktop to store files in. More importantly, you should also create folders within folders – on your hard drive, for example. If you start creating folder to store your files in, you will find that you have a more organized and easily accessible filing system which will make it easy to find your files later on. This is true of program as well as documentation files.
To save files to a folder you create, you first have to gather them. For example, you might have a group of music files in a folder, and you want to save these by artist. Each artist could have his own folder.
There are two handy ways of collecting a large group of files in a folder: selectively and as a whole. Here’s how you collect files selectively.
Here's a little Windows Trick
You can grab selected files from a list in a folder and then copy or paste them to another folder.
Step 1. In a folder with a lot of files left click a file to highlight it
Step 2.
Hold the CTRL KEY down left click any other files from the list
that you will also want.
If you want to quickly collect an entire group of files use this method.
Here's a little Windows Trick
You can grab a whole bunch of files in a folder at once by using this method.
Step 1. In a folder with a lot of files left click the top file to highlight it.
Step 2.
Hold the SHIFT KEY down and slide the mouse pointer down to
the last file.
Step 3. Left click the last file -- notice that all of the files get highlighted.
Once you have selected all of the files you want to transfer to your new folder, do the following.
Step 1. Right click on one
of the highlighted files (it doesn’t matter
which one) and hold the mouse button down.
Step 2. Drag the mouse
pointer (and the collected files) to the folder you
want to deposit them in and release the mouse button.
Poof! Just like magic the files disappear from the main directory into the selected folder.
This might seem a bit strange at first, and if you are new at using the mouse you might have some difficulties accomplishing the task. But with practice the actions will become second nature.
